In June 2011, J & H Boatworks, Inc. hauled the F/V KATRINA for a complete re-build at the Port of Astoria's Tongue Point facility.  The F/V KATRINA is owned by Dave Hubbard, a local fisherman. The major external work was to lengthen the hull from 45 ft. to 51 ft. and sponson from 14 ft. to 22 ft. The hull was originally built from 3/16" steel plate and frames. New skin and frames were built from 1/4" plate.

The increase in hull volume provided for an expanded engine room, fish hold, lazarette, cabin and foc’sle. The new aluminum pilot house was attached with ‘deta-coupler’ transition joint to the steel deck. Tulio Celano P.E. of Crescere Marine Engineering, Inc. of Columbia City, OR. was the design and engineering consultant.

In addition, the new KATRINA has been renovated from top to bottom:

 New 425 hp John Deere main engine, keel cooling etc.

 New 65 kW John Deere generator and all associated outfitting

 Existing 12 kW Isuzu generator re-installed

 New exhaust systems with s.s. exhaust piping and flex, Harco mufflers etc.

 New IMS 20-ton refrigerated seawater system

 New main shaft, couplings, bearings, and propeller

 New rudder, rudder bearings, shafting and steering system including plumbing

 New electrical and hydraulic system

 New fresh water tanks and plumbing

 New crab plumbing pumps, piping, valves in engine room

 Two new fuel tanks and two w.t. compartments in the new stern addition

 New power-assisted engine-room ventilation system

 New navigation and associated electronics

On Saturday December 3, 2011 the F/V KATRINA was hauled out of the Tongue Point facility and successfully launched into the Columbia River.
