1980 Launch of the DEFIANT
Our 2nd vessel after the MILKY WAY, the DEFIANT was born after two days of "labor" during the launch in April. The construction window was 10 months for this $750,000 vessel.
F/V DEFIANT
In late May of 1980, the 66' X 22' DEFIANT left Astoria ready to fish the waters of Alaska. This combination vessel has delivered thousands of tons of crab, shrimp, and bottom fish. DEFIANT underwent a major refit in 2010 at J & H’s Tongue Point facility, lengthening and sponsoning her to 71’ 6” X 28’ and adding a bulbous bow. She is now back at work, more capable and more seaworthy than ever. Please view the slideshow below for before & after, and construction photos of the project (click on the slideshow to see captions).

The RHONDA RENEE in beautiful Alaska
1990 brought the "end" of the building boom for bowpicker style boats for Prince William Sound. The RHONDA RENEE is the queen of the fleet in that area. Two 300 HP diesels move this 35 X 13 Ft. vessel at 30 MPH. J & H built seven of this syle of vessel from 1983 through 1990.
